Large flying insects

I mowed on Monday evening, then Kindra and I sat on the porch and watched the lightning bugs float through the dusk. We have a good crop of them this year and they come out every evening to put on a show just for us. It is hard to estimate how many might be in the yard at any time.

This weekend America will celebrate Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a holiday that can be bittersweet for many people. I look forward to enjoying this long weekend.

Impact of words often underestimated

The dark grey wall paint of the doctor’s office was almost as depressing as the words coming out of the doctor’s mouth were. It would have sounded laughable, if he hadn’t been so serious: 16 years old and diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. At first, I didn’t want to believe it.

Town Talk

Town Talk along with the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary will hold a Memorial Day Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25th at the Stroud Cemetery. There will be a short program and a 21-gun salute to honor our deceased veterans.

Houseplants

Saturday was interesting. First, we put together a picnic table that Kindra had ordered online. The picnic table came from Indonesia, I saw on a label, and was made from a synthetic material that looked like gray barnwood. I salute Kindra for choosing this material instead of actual tree wood.

Birthdays with family

Earlier this month, my wife Pat and I celebrated our birthdays. As many of you may be aware, my wife and I share the same birth date, but three years apart. I am the older one. This year our birthday was a little more special than some have been in the past.

Updates from Meeker Town Hall

This week we had another meeting about the Quapaw 15 project. Those in attendance from Natural Resource Conservation Service were Valerie Glasgow, Dustin Livingston, Dennis Fowler, and Tucker Thompson. Members from the Lincoln County Conservation District were Wade Helms, and Heather Layman.
