Big win for Wellston over Hollis

Alec Hagar ran for 301 yards and accounted for four touchdowns to spark Wellston to a 44-36 comeback win over Hollis Friday. Hollis came into the game with a 5-1 record, but Wellston led through much of the game. “Hollis came in with a good record and a good team,” said Hollis coach James Jones.

Bulldogs take command of district

The game had the trappings of a showdown, but Davenport made short work of it, whipping up on Prue, 52-6, and taking sole possession of first place in District B-7.

Stroud pounds Konawa, goes to 8-0

Stroud extended its perfect record to 8-0 with a 58-14 thumping of Konawa on a night that was wet and cold. A cold rain fell for much of the game, but it didn’t deter the Tigers, who jumped out to a 42-0 lead at the half.

State cross country meet

Lincoln County runners put on a strong showing at the state cross country meet Sarturday at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee. Meeker freshman Riley Randall medaled in Class 3A boys and the Meeker boys and Chandler girls teams came in with Top 10 finishes. The Chandler boys finished 14th.

Lions win a wet one

Chandler ran off 26 unanswered points in the second half to turn what had been a close game into a blowout Friday night. The final: Lions 40, Okemah 12. The game was a tight one, especially after Okemah scored to make it a 14-12 game in the third quarter. And then, almost suddenly it wasn’t.

The best thing about the Meeker Bulldogs’ 61-6 beating of Holdenville on Friday was that it ended. The night was cold and wet and the outcome was clear as soon as Meeker quarterback Jacob Martin ran for a touchdown on the Bulldogs’ first possession.

Prague, Stroud at state tournament

Prague’s Lady Devils battled into the state semifinals before falling to eventual state champion Tishomingo last week. Prague opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over Sulphur.
