Stroud falls to Dale

Stroud’s softball wrapped up a record-breaking season with an appearance in the Class 2A state tournament last week, falling to eventual state runnerup Dale, 14-4.

Davenport pummels Wesleyan Christian

Davenport’s Bulldogs opened district play with a bang, shutting out Wesleyan Christian School, 47-0, Friday night. The Bulldogs scored early and often, getting all but one of their touchdowns on the ground.

Tigers win big at Wynnewood

Gage Parrick ran for five touchdowns on only seven carries, leading Stroud to 50-9 hammering of Wynne-wood that put the Tigers into the driver’s seat in District A-7. Parrick finished with 115 yards and scoring runs of 6, 6, 72, 12 and 18 yards.

Headed to state

Prague’s Lady Devils flexed some home run muscle to subdue long-time rival Meeker and earn a spot in this week’s Class 3A fast-pitch state tournament at the Firelake fields in Shawnee. They will play Sulphur at 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Stroud:

Stroud’s Lady Tigers had no margin for error on Friday. To win the regional tournament and advance to state, they had to win three games in a row, including back-to-back games against Oklahoma Union, the team that beat them 7-4 on Thursday and sent them to the loser’s bracket.

Homecoming W for the Lions

The Mighty Lions of Chandler (2-3, 1-1) got off to a slow start before outscoring district foe, Kellyville, 33-6 in the second half to defeat the Ponies 47-13 on Friday, October 4, at the Joe Telford Field.

Clutch TD lifts Stroud past Wewoka

Gage Parrick ran for five touchdowns and Zeb Blancarte ran for the game-winner with a minute and a half to play Friday. The result: a hard-fought 42-38 district win for the Tigers against Wewoka. The game was back and forth all night, with neither team able to separate itself.

Davenport falls to Dewar

The unbeaten Dewar Dragons kept rolling Friday, beating Davenport 34-14 in the final non-district game for both teams. Dewar had rolled to a 4-0 record before Friday, with the lowest previous margin of victory being a 46-0 win over Strother in the opener and a 52-6 win over Wetumka two weeks later.

Jones overcomes Meeker in district showdown

The Jones Longhorns took control early Friday night, scoring on their first possession and never surrendering the lead on their way to a 41-14 win over Meeker.

Wellston comeback sinks Okeene

The Wellston Tigers rang up 42 points in the second half Friday to bury the Okeene Whippets 70-46. Wellston trailed at the half 32-28, but outscored the Whippets 14 points in the third quarter to take a lead they never relinquished. “I’m proud of our guys,” said Wellston coach James Jones.
