Wolford’s 313 propels Meeker

Meeker junior Caden Wolford had a good career Friday night. He rushed for 313 yards and five touchdowns as the Bulldogs shook off a raft of first-half penalties to beat Kellyville 68-26 in their district opener. As a team, Meeker ran for 566 yards and made a living off the zone read.

Fastpitch regionals released

Prague will host a Class 3A fastpitch regional this week, with ancient rival Meeker being one of the teams in the bracket. Chandler will go to Kingston for its regional. Stroud, the lone 2A school in the county, heads northeast to Oklahoma Union.

Big night for Davenport

Davenport romped past Strother, 59-0, Friday night to go 3-1 for the season. Strother falls to 1-4. Kyle Hobill opened Davenport’s scoring, running 59 yards for a touchdown. Carson Funk added a conversion run to make it 8-0.

Jones drops the Lions in district opener

The Lions (1-3, 0-1) closed out non-district play with a win against Mount St. Mary before returning home for the first district game of the season against Jones (3-1, 0-1). After being shut out by the Longhorns last season, the Lions battled throughout last Friday’s game in a 42-29 loss.

Stroud clips Wayne; faces Wewoka next

The Tigers came away with their first district win Friday, but the issue was in doubt until Grant Elerick ran for a one-yard touchdown with just over two minutes left in the game. That made the score 14-6 and lifted the Tigers’record to 4-0 for the season.

Wellston hires two new lay coaches

Chayse Pittman and Nick Long were approved as new coaches during a regularly scheduled Wellston Board of Education meeting held September 9. The board also approved fi nancials and committees. The new middle school baseball lay coach will be Chayse Pittman.

The Chandler Lions ran onto the field for their home opener, then ran past the Mount Saint Mary Rockets for a 39-7 win in their home opener Friday night. It was the Lions’ first win of the season and came in a convincing fashion.

Lions have their way

Chandler’s Lions made the most of their return to Joe Telford Field, scoring early and often to blow out the Mount St. Mary Rockets, 39-7, Friday. It was the first home game of the season – and the first win – following two road losses and an open date.
