This past Monday marked the 22nd anniversary of 9/11. As I began thinking about that fateful morning, it reminded me of how I found out and exactly what I was doing at that time.

I was sleeping like a spruce log Wednesday night when a snake grabbed my arm. This was a big snake, as round as a Folger’s can and long enough where I couldn’t see all of it. I leaped out of bed, shook the snake off my arm and slapped the wall for the light switch.

Billi Kaye Smith Meacham, Stroud High School graduate and former Miss Oklahoma. donated her pageant dress to Town Talk. We plan on having it on display as part of Stroud’s history. I took it to Fox Cleaners which is located just around the corner from my home in Tulsa.

Chandler School Board

Chandler’s Board of Education members this week approved the 2023-2024 Estimate of Needs and financial statement and the “Application for Sanctioning” of several booster clubs. School Supt. Scott Baade said Chandler High School has been ranked the 12th best in Oklahoma by U.S.

Dale Board of Education

Dale Board of Education members have approved the district’s 2023-2024 Estimate of Needs and agreed to stipends for all full time support staff. School Supt. Will Jones said the Estimate of Needs totals $6,662,185.70. The board approved the teacher negotiated contract for 2023-2024.

A winning habit

If you ask Tanner Thompson about all the races he’s won, he’ll just shrug and tell you his favorite thing about it is meeting new friends. Tanner - who is No. 21 on the track - started racing when he was six for fun.

Pott County: Problems at the jail

Pottawatomie County jail officials apparently defied state laws and a judge’s order when they concealed information on the unexplained deaths of seven vulnerable detainees. All seven people arrived at the jail with medical and mental health or substance use complications that required care.

What started as a way to help sophomore Ava White cover the costs of showing cattle has bloomed into a promising new business. The Chandler student, who is also vice president of the FFA, launched Hounds & Heifers in January 2022, selling pet treats and apparel.

Charlotte Mary Whitehall, of Stroud, OK passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. Charlotte was born on September 9, 1941, in Paris, MO to Floyd and Mildred (Painter) Hern. Charlotte married Dwight Whitehall in Las Vegas on March 27, 1986.

John Leonard Cushing

John Leonard Cushing was born on October 25, 1957 and departed this life on August 19, 2023. John was born to Leonard John Cushing and Martha Jane (Alley) Cushing in Stroud, Oklahoma. He spent most of his childhood there and graduated from Stroud High School in 1976.
