Now that the dust has settled and it’s been more than three weeks since State Question 820 was overwhelmingly rejected by Oklahomans, I thought I’d weigh in a little bit on its demise. First, I thought the proposition to legalize recreational marijuana in the Sooner state would probably pass.

Chop shop suspect to stand trial

One defendant in an alleged chop shop operation has been ordered to stand trial, an arraignment has been set for another and the pre-preliminary hearing has been continued for a third.

Early voting begins

Early voting for next Tuesday’s municipal and school elections across Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties begins today, Thursday, March 30 and Friday, March 31, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lincoln County Election Board in Chandler and the Pottawatomie County Election Board in Shawnee.

Charges filed in fatality

A first degree manslaughter charge or in the alternative negligent homicide has been filed against a driver whose semi-trailer truck collided with a vehicle driven by a Stroud man who died in the crash. Brent Lee Nobles, 43, of Jennings, was charged in Lincoln County District Court March 23.

Prague announces valedictorians, salutatorian

Prague High School has announced its valedictorians and salutatorian for the class of 2023. Valedictorians are Kyler Kinslow, Kaden Simons, Cameron Hightower, Kayla Martin, Jaylee Friend, Courtney Brydon, Ayleen Vazquez and Avery Terrell. The salutatorian is Benjamin Foster.

Ronald Eugene Liter was born August 26, 1964 in Dallas to Donald and Patricia (Hampton) Liter. He passed away March 12, 2023 in San Francisco at the age of 58. Ronald was born and raised by Donald and Doris Liter growing up in Oklahoma and Indiana.

Jackie Earl Sharp was born May 21, 1955 in Oklahoma City to Harold Sharp and Lola Mae (Armstrong). He passed away March 16, 2023 in Oklahoma City at the age of 67. Jackie grew up in Wellston where he attended school graduating with the Wellston High School class of 1973.
