Chandler events

Following is a list of upcoming events in and around the Chandler community. The Chandler Lions Club meets at 12 p.m., each Thursday at First Christian Church, 614 Manvel. The Chandler Rotary Club meets 12 p.m., each Friday at Destinations. Listed below are events scheduled in June. Sat.

The family of Gerald and Sylvia Janes of Wellston are honored to announce the couple’s 50th Wedding Anniversary. Sylvia Tripp and Gerald Janes were united in marriage on June 19, 1971 in Edmond, Okla. You are invited to celebrate with them on June 19 between 4-8 p.m.

COLLEGE BRIEFS

University of Central Oklahoma Two students from Lincoln County were recently honored at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond with the Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship for demonstrating talent and distinguished achievement in leadership, citizenship, service and communication.

Meeker to seek new gas vendor

Meeker’s Board of Education this week voted to authorize School Supt. Jeff Pruitt to choose a new third party vendor for the transportation of natural gas and enter into a contract.

Man charged with kicking trooper

An Altus man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly assaulted a state trooper recently on Interstate 44 (Turner Turnpike) in Lincoln County.

Community events planned

The Citizens for the Improvement of Chandler are working to create more events for the community. David Burgess has only been the president of the Citizens for the Improvement of Chandler for 95 days, but he has been working to create multiple events for the community.

Nine new COVID cases

The number of new cases in Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties attributed to COVID-19 has risen by only nine, Oklahoma State Department of Health figures show. No new deaths have occurred in either county since the last report, according to the OSDH.

Felony charge for Stroud man

A Stroud man was arrested recently and faces a felony and four misdemeanors after he allegedly kicked in the door of a woman’s house. Zachary Othell Roberts, 41, was formally charged in Lincoln County District on June 8 with first degree burglary, a felony.

Last night I picked enough purple and yellow snap beans to have what my grandparents would have defined as “a mess.” The yellow beans are Cherokee wax and the purples are, if I remember correctly, Purple Queen.
