Stroud scholarship recipients

Officials at Stroud Public Schools announced the scholarships and awards presented to graduating seniors as listed below.

Mary Ruth Taylor

Mary Ruth Taylor of Chandler, Okla., went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2021, in Chandler at the age of 87. Mary Ruth (Kay) Taylor was born February 21, 1934 to her parents, Thomas Marion and Mary (Briggs) Kay in Shawnee, Okla.

Sandra Kay Elam

A memorial service will be held for Sandra Kay Elam at 11 a.m., today, May 27, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Davenport with the Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston. Elam was born March 27, 1957, in Alva, Okla.

Dewayne August Blocker

Dewayne August Blocker was born to Franklin Leroy and Mildred Mae (Beier) Blocker on December 31, 1951, in Perry, Okla. He died Friday, May 21, 2021, at his home in Wellston. He was 69 years old. Dewayne was a mechanical engineer. His parents preceded him in death.

William Marshal Smith

William Marshal “Ped’e” Smith was born August 3, 1972, in Oklahoma City. He died Monday, April 17, 2021, in California at the age of 48 years. Smith is the son of Eddie Gene Moore and Beverly J. (Mongo) Smith. Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents and an aunt.

Raymond Black

Raymond Black was born February 16, 1933, in Stroud, the youngest of four siblings. He died Friday, May 21, 2021, at the age of 88 years. Black, the son of Lewis and Edna Black, married Billie Black in Arizona in 1953.

Randy Bowen

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Randall “Randy” Lynn Bowen who was born May 8, 1963 in Oklahoma City to James Thomas and Billie Jean (Davis) Bowen. He passed away at his home in Edmond on May 17, 2021 at the age of 58.

Olen Scott Davis

Olen “Scott” Davis was born February 4, 1963, in San Diego, Calif. He died Friday, May 21, 2021, at his home in Meeker. He was 58 years old. Davis was preceded in death by his mother Lillie Brown, his son Wesley Scott Davis and his son-in-law Davis Ellis.

Mauro, Rivas selected as May Lions

The Lion’s Club has named Hayli Mauro and Tyson Rivas May Lions of the Month. Haylie Mauro is the daughter of David and Traci Mauro and maintains a 4.0 grade point average while taking advanced classes in English for four years and math for one.

Walk for the Warriors

Chandler Jr. High Student Council Walked for the Warriors in downtown Chandler on May 6, 2021, as they worked to raise funds to contribute to the Wounded Warriors Project. They raised $1,645.
