Big week for track

Area athletes turned in some impressive performances in the regional track meets last Friday and Saturday. Chandler junior Jessie Brannon ran the fastest qualifying time in the state in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking a 47.

Dale, North Rock Creek at slow pitch state

Dale and North Rock Creek were rained out in the state slow pitch tournament Tuesday and were playing in a rescheduled one-day state meet on Wednesday at the Firelake complex south of Shawnee.

Area golfers qualify for state tournament

Golfers from Chandler, Stroud, Prague and North Rock Creek qualified for state. Elle Standlee and Maggie Smith from Prague qualified for the Class 2A girls tournament, which started Wednesday at the Cimarron Golf Course in Guthrie. It concludes on Thursday.

Debra Ann Grissom

Debra Ann (Friskup) Grissom of Prague was born September 26, 1961, in Gaylord, Minn. She died Thursday, April 29, 2021, in Oklahoma City at the age of 59 years. Grissom, the daughter of L. Kent and Judy Ann (Malm) Friskup, married Michael Ray Grissom on December 22, 1979.

Phyllis Ann Morton

Phyllis Ann (Evans) Morton was born December 5, 1941, in Warwick and died Sunday, May 2, 2021, in Chandler. She was 79 years old. Morton, the daughter of Argyle Wayne and Juanita Mae (Hopkins) Evans, married Gene Morton on December 24, 1960. She was of the Christian faith.

Grace M. McGuffee

Grace M. McGuffee was born November 27, 1947, in Mount Holly, N.J., and died Saturday, April 24, 2021, at her home in Chandler. She was 73 years old. McGuffee, the daughter of Joe and Lydia Riker, married Ronald McGuffee on September 7, 1978, in Oklahoma City.

COVID cases climb in area

The number of new cases in the area attributed to COVID-19 has jumped a bit in Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties, Oklahoma State Department of Health figures show. There have been two new deaths in Pottawatomie County but none in Lincoln County since the last report.
