Chandler library has new books

The Library recently purchased 19 new titles to add to the adult and young adult fiction collection. Two new young adult books are “Midnight Sun” by Stephenie Meyer and “Library of Souls,” the third novel in the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series.

Snow returned to much of Oklahoma on Sunday but reportedly caused little problem in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties. Another round of snow moved in Tuesday morning and was still bringing flurries when we sent this week’s edition to the press.

New Mural for McLoud

A long time dream for the city of McLoud has come to fruition with a mural painted on the south side of a large building. The mural was painted by well-known artist Bob Palmer and two assistants.

School board filings

The three-day filing period for school board offices in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties concluded last week. Several races developed in each of the two counties. Lincoln County Election Board Secretary Melissa Stambaugh said these were the candidates who filed for the following offices.

Bulldogs fall at Laverne

Davenport’s remarkable season came to end Saturday evening in Laverne, as the Bulldogs fell 52-12 in the state quarterfinals. Davenport finished with a 10-2 record, including an eight-game winning streak. Laverne advances to the state semi-finals at Pioneer-Pleasant Vale.

Hoops season starts

As befits the year 2020, the high school basketball season opened last week with some unusual scenarios. Chandler had to scrap its scheduled opener against Okemah due to COVID-19 quarantines, and McLoud played its boys opener against Meeker in a quiet gym without spectators or cheerleaders.
