Meeker hires Treat as principal

The Meeker Board of Education this week hired a new Middle School principal along with several teachers, some of who will coach. Several resignations were also accepted.

The board’s action came after returning to open meeting following a 25-minute executive session.

Rodney Treat, former Chandler girls’ basketball coach, was hired as the new Middle School Principal.

Board members also hired Caven Herring as a Middle School teacher and new high school baseball coach. Also hired was Marcie Simpson, Middle School teacher and coach.

School Supt. Jeff Pruitt said it hadn’t been decided yet what she would coach.

Anya Harness and Randi Janway were both hired as Middle School teachers.

Resignation requests approved include Dillon Endecott, Middle School and coach; Kyle Colvin, high school teacher and coach; Calee Colvin, Middle School teacher; and Kathleen Henry, Middle School teacher.

The board members also listened to a presentation of a roof analysis report of the district by James Carter, Jr., a field advisor with Tremco Construction Products Group.

He said the district has 200,450 square feet of roof and he pointed to the needs and some of what he believed would be the priorities.

“There are some things the district needs to do strategically over the next five years. You have a few roofs that are currently leaking,” he added.

Carter indicated that by the board’s next meeting he would have a five-year plan prepared.

The board members tabled the agenda item following his presentation.

The board heard reports from High School Principal Brad Buxton and Meeker Education Center Virtual Director/Alt. Ed Principal Virginia Pritchard.

Buxton said site 705 has 198 students enrolled and site 701 has 5 at this time.

Pritchard advised the board, “Our Alternative Education numbers look to be at 10 students for the fall semester. So far we have 29 high school students who will be participating in Virtual and Blended programs, one Middle School student and four elementary students,” she explained.
