The Dale Board of Education has hired several new employees as the 2021-2022 school year got under way on Wednesday, Aug. 11.
Following about a 20-minute executive session, board members returned to open meeting.
They hired Marty Shirey as an Elementary Physical Education teacher.
They also hired Lori Sanford to teach Middle School Science on a temporary contact for the 2021-2022 school term. Sanford previously taught a number of years at Dale before retiring and is now returning to the classroom again.
The board employed Angel Stewart as an Early Childhood teacher on a temporary contract for the 2021-2022 school term.
Acting School Supt. Ky Wilkins said Stewart will teach Kindergarten.
Carla Villareal was hired as a dishwasher.
And the board tabled hiring a bus route driver.
The board approved several fund raisers including Blue and Gold for the Vo-Ag program, and the band and elementary school each will do donations, Wilkins explained.
The Student Policy Handbook was approved without revisions. The board also agreed to have Dale participate in the Alternative Education program with Bethel Schools.
In discussing financials with the board, Wilkins advised the board the district received about $100,000 more in state aid this past school year but that is still down from previous years, he said.
“The building fund has received about $149,000 from the Medical Marijuana tax,” he informed board members. “We also didn’t spend as much money last year as we did the previous year,” he added.
“We have received all of the Chrome books and the computers we ordered,” he further advised board members.
He said the high school gymnasium floor will be ready in time for the start of the school year next week.
“It’s been a hectic few weeks around here,” he told the board.
