A come and go reception honoring Mike and Joyce Madden for their 60th wedding anniversary was hosted by their children, Cindy Steele and Mitch and Cathy Garrett, at the First Baptist Church, 912 East First Street in Chandler, on Sunday, June 12.
The Maddens have six grandchildren – Aaron Steele and Jessica, Ryan, Evan, and Mason and Kamryn Garrett and three great-grandchildren – Juniper, Cedar, and Miles Garrett.
Michael E. Madden and Joyce Santeler were married at Park Ridge Presbyterian Church in Park Ridge, IL, on June 22, 1962. They established their first home in suburban Chicago after returning from active duty in the US Navy at Whidbey Island, WA.
Mike was an electronics medical field engineer for 30 years and they lived in many areas of our country including Washington, DC; Oak Ridge, TN; Cincinnati, OH; and Simi Valley, CA.
After much consideration they moved their family, horses, and dogs to Chandler to establish a horse breeding operation. Both became involved in many community youth activities: Girl Scouts, 4-H, baseball, and later in Boy Scouts with Aaron. Both were involved with the Territorial Marshals and many horse-centered activities.
Joyce retired from the insurance field after 20+ years and after retiring from Siemens, Mike worked as a police officer and deputy in Lincoln County for over 20 years.
