New mayor in McLoud

McLoud City Council members during their most recent meeting appointed a new mayor and vice mayor and created a committee as the result of an ARPA Community survey.

City Manager Cody Roe said Councilman Daniel McClure, Jr., was appointed the new mayor and Councilwoman Becky Carpenter was appointed the new vice mayor.

Both were sworn in at the outset of the meeting. Council members approved a new committee as the result of an ARPA Community survey. Roe said the top three items in the Community survey results include infrastructure, public safety and parks.

He explained the Council members created a committee from the Parks portion including Councilman Steven Tomaszewski, Vice Mayor Carpenter, and community members Roger White and Jonas Manley to serve on it.

In other action, Roe said the Council agreed to allow a group to operate each weekend during the month of May a Farmer’s Market and added, “If all goes well, we will have an agreement in the future.”

The Council adopted an ordinance and approved the emergency clause requiring adherence to the international building code.

On the possibility of live streaming City Council meetings, Roe said he was requested to obtain costs and the equipment necessary in order for that to happen.

He said the Council took no action on making Splash Pad upgrades with ARPA funding.

Roe noted the Council discussed Planning Commission recommendations regarding use restriction and/or modifications for McLoud’s downtown, but took no action.
