Dale calls election for empty school board seat

Dale Board of Education members recently approved a resolution calling for the annual School Board election for Office No. 4.

The seat has been vacant since June of this year when Josh Clark resigned from the position. He stepped down because his wife Kasey Clark was hired that night as an elementary teacher.

The Office No. 4 seat is for a five-year term. The filing period for candidates to file for school board positions runs from Dec. 4 through Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Board members approved the hiring of Jacqualyn Rutherford as an Elementary Aide.

They voted to approve $425 stipends for employees with over 25 years.

They also voted to execute the interlocal agreement with the Oklahoma Purchasing System.

Board members approved an Opioid Abatement grant letter of intent.

They approved a Valentine Daddy-Daughter Dance as an elementary fund raiser.

They also approved the 2024 board meeting dates.

In their reports, Elementary Principal Tamee Daniel informed board members elementary enrollment stands at 340 students. The elementary level is taking donations for the Christmas store, she advised them.

Middle School Principal Kim Powell reported enrollment in grades 5-8 is currently 277 students. The sixth graders are conducting a canned food drive and a Bedlam Change project raised between $1,100 and $,1200 she told the board members.

She said 12 Middle School students made the ECU honor band.

High School Principal Erick Muncy said high school enrollment is 221.

The high school band had 27 students make the ECU Honor Band, Muncy advised the board.

The high school girls and boys basketball teams opened the season last Friday night at home against Preston and the girls received their state championship rings, Muncy noted.

At Tuesday night’s home game this week against Byng the boys received their state championship rings.

During his superintendent’s report, Jones reviewed financial information showing that the warrants as of October 2023 were $1,757,628 and in October of 2022 were $1,654,805. That’s an increase of $102,823 over the same month a year ago, he noted.

Building Fund cash balance in October of this year was $140,459 compared to $108,275 in October of 2022. That’s an increase of $32,184, Jones said.

The General Fund cash balance in October of this year stood at $193,244, about $42,080 less than the $235,324 balance in October of 2022, he said.

State Aid received as of October 2023 was $949,968 and that is $137,707 up from the $812,171 in October of a year ago.

The County sales tax balance was $394,286 in October of this year, $16,896 less than the $411,182 in October of a year ago, he advised board members.

October sales tax check amounted to $28,634.
