ShermanAllen Bellmyer was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on Aug. 9 at around 11:16 p.m. for one charge of lewd or indecent proposals or acts to a child, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Jail Report.
Bellmyer is listed as the elementary school principal on the Carney Public Schools website.
On Monday morning, Superintendent Cyal Walden posted a statement on the school district’s Facebook page, stating that they were made aware earlier that morning of a criminal investigation involving one of the school’s employees. The statement added that the employee will not be on campus or at school activities.
Walden also said that the school is in full cooperation with the local authorities on the matter and that the safety of students is very important.
The Lincoln County News has reached out to the Carney Police Department, Carney Public Schools and the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office, but none have responded by the time of publication.
