Fire departments and first responders from around the state attended the funeral this weekend for Wellston volunteer firefighter Joe Flake.
The departments lined the road leading through downtown Wellston with trucks and personnel, providing one last send-off for Flake as his funeral procession made its way to the cemetery. The Wellston and Carney Fire Departments brought up the end of the procession.
The Lincoln County departments in attendance wereAgra, Carney, Chandler, Stroud, Kendric, Fallis, Sparks, Arlington, Merrick, Prague, Davenport and Jacktown. Fire departments from outside the county in attendance were Luther Fire and Goldsby Fire. Also represented were Lifenet EMS, Lincoln County Emergency Management, Pottawatomie County Emergency Management, Wagoner County Emergency Management and the State Office of Emergency Management.
The Edmond Fire Honor Guard did the flag ceremony and provided bell for the ceremony.Tecumseh Fire and McLoud Fire covered the Wellston fire district during the funeral and ceremony. The Iowa Tribe Fire Department and Agra Fire Department attended the 9/11 Stair Climb in Oklahoma City and represented Firefighter Flake. An account for donations for the family has been set up at First Bank and Co in Sue Flake’s name.
