All of the playground equipment for the Glenn Crest Park renovation in Meeker is erected and in place, Town Administrator Dickie Walton said.
Walton said one is for little kids ages 2-5 and another is for bigger kids ages 5-9. Also, 5,642 square feet of mulch with a safety border around it was ordered earlier in the summer.
“There are also three swing sets for teenagers and adults,” Walton stated.
He further noted, “There is a handicapped swing accompanied by another swing that will meet ADA requirements. We’re about half way through installing the rubberized mulch. We still lack our washing the walk.”
He said the basketball court was seal coated last Friday, noting, “They will come back Monday (of this week) and stripe it, weather permitting.”
The volleyball net has been ordered and will be put in place this week, he expects.
“The dirt is in place for flower beds at the park entrance and rocks are being placed as borders. OG&E is coming back to adjust the night security lights,” Walton said.
The town administrator added, “We still lack pouring the concrete walkway from the sidewalk to the handicap swing. There is a partial replacement of the concrete walkway at the southwest corner of the park where the roots have buckled the concrete.”
Walton explained, “We’re waiting on a possible donation for the concrete parking lot. We’re going to install a pavilion 10 feet by 20 feet that will cover two of the eight-feet picnic tables.”
He emphasized, “I don’t want to open up the park until the concrete parking lot is completed.”
Walton estimates the total cost of the park is more than $100,000.
He points to a $60,000 donation from Oklahoma Medical Marijuana, a local Meeker business, a $22,000 grant from TSET, and $6,000 from the Meeker Growth and Development Committee as major sources of funding.
“The rest of it is coming from the two banks, businesses, and individuals and individual sponsorships,” Walton stated.
He stressed, “The city won’t have to pay anything except for the manpower of city workers.”
Walton pointed out, “We have basketball posts concreted in, but we still have to install the backboards, goals and nets.”
He said John Paul, owner of Venture World which is the company that supplied the playground equipment, “is coming here in another week or so, whenever we’re finished and he’s bringing a professional photographer and also a professional drone operator.
“Meeker will be on the cover of the next company magazine,” he said.
Walton mentioned the T-ball backstop already at the park has received a new coat of aluminum paint. The T-ball organization has agreed to come and stripe the field for the grand opening, he said.
