Wendel Eugene Helm was born May 6, 1950, in Chandler and died Monday, December 28, 2020. He was 70 years old.
The son of J.M. Helm and Naoma (Dollison) Langwell, he was married to Betty Bowen and in 1984 married Janice Fleharty.
Helm, a 1968 graduate of Chandler High School, served in the United States Marine Corps. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree from Central State University and retired from Conoco in Ponca City. He was also a professional boxer.
Preceding him in death were his father and his brothers Gary Austin, Bill Austin, Jimmy Helm, Ricky Helm and Bob Helm.
Survivors include his mother; his wife Janice Helm of the home; his children, Wendy Clark, Lacy Helm and John Helm, all of Tulsa, Okla., Kim McGlasson of Chandler and Tristan Helm and wife Melanie of Fort Worth, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, David and Kathy Helm of Stroud, Carol and Farrell Maier of Edmond, Okla., Ben and Sharon Helm of Drumright, Okla., Brenda Rich and Pam Pratt, both of Chandler, Marie and Boyd Boggs of Sparks; and other family and friends.
A funeral was held Saturday January 2, 2021 in the chapel of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston, which handled the final arrangements. Burial followed at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler.
