Commissioners adopt sales tax resolution

Lincoln County commissioners this week adopted a resolution and election proclamation calling for renewal of the one cent county sales tax to be put on the Feb. 14, 2023 ballot. Commissioners, during their Nov. 21 meeting, voted 2-1 for the election and to change some of the ballot language.

Murder defendant pleads to five unrelated charges

A man awaiting a jury trial on a first degree murder complaint has pleaded guilty to five additional felonies in another case and drawn five prison terms to run concurrently with one another. Cole Berginer Guy, 19 at the time, and now 20, was formally charged Feb.

Hearings on sex charges

Preliminary hearings have been scheduled for a Shawnee man facing a total of nine-related sex charges with minor. Five felony charges of lewd or indecent acts to a child were originally filed Aug. 25 in Lincoln County District Court against Danny Ray Weeks, Jr., 52, of Shawnee.

A woman from Jennings died the day after Thanksgiving in a traffic collision on U.S. 177 south of Carney in Lincoln County. State Trooper Chad Pape identified the woman who died as Teresa Jennings, 64.
