Officials at Wellston High School recently announced the Valedictorians and Salutatorian for the graduating class of 2021. Achieving a 4.0 or better grade point average during their high school years were Emma Janes, Tricity Ross and Hailey Wallace. Skylar Jackson is the 2021 class Salutatorian.

Chandler seventh-grader Caden Eyestone won an archery world championship last week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He competed at the National Archery in Schools Program national tournament and qualified for the world event, which we won.

LCN wins news award

The Lincoln County News won the first-place award for news content and a variety of photography awards in the Oklahoma Press Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest.

Dale gets insurance cost hike

The Dale Board of Education this week approved property and casualty insurance for 2021-2022, but will be paying more for it. Kyle Rosebure, representing OSIG, informed the board the $127,000 premium they would be paying for the insurance is a 20 percent increase over a year ago.

Theatre camp

Lincoln County On-Stage is putting on a theatre camp this summer. The camp will be at Chandler High School’s Performing Arts Center, and the dates are July 19-22 and July 26-29. The camp will be split into two groups.

Egrets took advantage of last week’s heavy rain and went fishing in the flooded Deep Fork River bottoms along highway 18 between Meeker and Chandler. Egrets are seen standing in flash flooded pools by Highway 18.

Another area death from COVID

The number of new deaths in Pottawatomie County attributed to COVID-19 has risen by one, Oklahoma State Department of Health figures show. No new deaths have occurred in Lincoln County since the last report, according to the OSDH.

Commissioners create weed slot for DA

Lincoln County Commissioners this week authorized a position for the District Attorney’s Office to focus on marijuana grow operations. County Commission Chairman Lee Doolen explained, “We’re not interested in hindering any legal operations.

Wellston man charged with kidnapping

Lincoln County Sheriff deputies arrested a Wellston area man on two felonies following a domestic incident last month. Formal charges of kidnapping and possession of a firearm after former felony conviction were filed June 2 in Lincoln County District Court against Shaine Richard Newlon, 44.
