Meeker sets school calendar

Meeker Board of Education members this week approved the calendar for the 2024-2025 school year, accepted a couple of resignations and honored one of their own.Becky Briggs completed her second consecutive five-year term on the board Monday night and fellow members recognized her as School Supt.

Prague woman dies in crash

A Prague has died and a Meeker man was injured recently in a two-vehicle collision at U.S. 177 and I-40 in Pottawatomie County.Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Conner Fryrear identified the woman who died as Diana Srader, 78, of Prague.

Area bands headed for state

Three local high school bands have advanced to the OSSAA state concert band competition, with two making it for the very first time. This is the debut for Stroud and North Rock Creek high schools, while Chandler is making a return.

County commissioners approve E911 contract

By Mike McCormick Staff Writer Lincoln County commissioners have approved a new contract for personnel services between the County’s E911 Trust Authority and the board of commissioners. The approval came during a special joint meeting with the 911 Trust Authority.

A Stroud man has pleaded not guilty on four felonies and his cases have been set for the felony disposition docket.

CHS alum releases third novel

Ginny Myers Sain comes from a family of writers. Her mother is famed young adult (YA) novelist and former Chandler teacher Anna Myers. Her father was a poet. Her younger brother Ben, who still lives in Chandler, was the poet laureate of the state of Oklahoma.

Hearing set in sex abuse case

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for an Agra man facing two counts of child sexual abuse. John David Somers, Jr., 33, was formally charged in Lincoln County District Court on Jan. 4 this year with the two counts.
