Chandler Schools offer free meals

Chandler Public Schools is participating in a free breakfast and/ or free lunch program for the current 2021-2022 school year. Therefore, all students enrolled in the district will receive free breakfast and/or lunch.

Blood donors needed

The Lincoln County Health Department will host a Bedlam Blood Drive, 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 17. Look for the Oklahoma Blood Institute’s Bloodmobile parked at 101 Meadow Lane in Chandler. While supplies last, donors can receive a choice of college T-shirts or local amusement tickets.

We got your kicks

A drug task force officer driving on US 66 spotted the tops of marijuna plants growing above a privacy fence last week, leading to a seizure of plants valued at up to $1 million. It was the third illegal marijuana grow operation in Lincoln County since the middle of June.

Meeker: Hearing postponed. Again.

A public hearing scheduled for later this month on a proposed annexation of property around Meeker has been canceled for the third time.

COVID soars

The number of new positive COVID-19 cases in Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties has risen by triple digits since the last report, Oklahoma State Department of Health figures show. Two new deaths also have been reported, one in each county, according to the OSDH.

Felony charges filed for Stroud woman

A Stroud woman faces two felony counts following her arrest recently by a Lincoln County deputy sheriff. Formal charges were filed July 26 in Lincoln County District Court against Kayla Dawn Butler, 31.

Professionals urge shots as COVID continues rise

An area physician and an area pharmacist are encouraging people to get vaccinated to help protect them from COVID-19 and its variants. Dr. Gregory Grant, a family medicine physician in Shawnee, said “I am seeing an increase in patients with the Covid and have since the beginning of July.

Bond reduced in murder case

The bond for a Wellston man charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of a 21-year-old Lincoln County resident has been reduced, court records show. First degree murder charges were formally filed in Lincoln County District Court on July 13 against Freddie Antonie Seamster, 38.
