To the editor: Since doing away with one voting day, we will never again have fair elections. Ballot counting going on for days and even weeks leaves too much room for adding or destroyingballots.

A woman I haven’t spoken much about in this space is my mother who reared me from shortly after I turned six years old. As many of you are aware, my maternal mother passed away when I was 3½ years old. She died of acute leukemia.

MIKE McCORMICK Staff Column As I was reflecting recently about people in the generation before me, I think of those who are still active and full of life. I also think of the people of that generation who led active lives until they passed away.
