Carolyn Maxine (Murray) Mitchell, 77, of Stroud, Oklahoma, passed away on April 20, 2026.Carolyn was born on September 9, 1947, in Winfield, Kansas, to Woodrow and Maxine Murray.

Relearning the old ways

Tradition is returning to Davenport softball.The once-proud program has won 24 state championships in softball, but hasn’t played in a state tournament in a decade.

State bound!

Area track teams had a strong showing at Saturday’s regional meets.The Stroud girls won their Class 2A regional and a total of 38 athletes from across the area qualified for state in individual events and 20 relay teams qualified.

North Rock Creek advances to this week’s Super Regional round in the Class 4A baseball playoffs and Dale and Stroud are in action in Class 2A regionals.North Rock Creek goes to Elgin to face the No. 2-ranked Owls in the best-of-three format.

Commissioners look at SS4A grant

The Lincoln County Commissioners agreed to find intersections in need of highway approach work to make them safer for a Safe Streets forAll (SS4A) grant application at their regular meeting on May 4.

Four Lincoln County students received scholarships from the Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative’s (CVEC) Round Up Board for 2026, according to a press release from the cooperative.
