Last week I had the opportunity to be involved in reviewing applications for an annual scholarship that our Shawnee Rotary Club provides. Along with several other Rotarians, I had the privilege of helping decide from about 10 applications submitted by seniors from two area high schools.

A big thank you to City Manager Bob Pearman and his crew for painting the Foster Park sign. It looks amazing. I’ve been driving by that sign for as long as I can remember and as I’ve said earlier, I think I took it for granted.

Food giveaway in Wellston

On Friday, May 14 , free food will be distributed through the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box Program. The boxes contain a meat product, dairy, fruit and vegetables so plan for refrigeration. The program benefits farmers and prevents the waste of agriculture products.

Dale and North Rock Creek were rained out in the state slow pitch tournament Tuesday and were playing in a rescheduled one-day state meet on Wednesday at the Firelake complex south of Shawnee.

Area golfers qualify for state tournament

Golfers from Chandler, Stroud, Prague and North Rock Creek qualified for state. Elle Standlee and Maggie Smith from Prague qualified for the Class 2A girls tournament, which started Wednesday at the Cimarron Golf Course in Guthrie. It concludes on Thursday.
