Jane Hope Stephens, of Cushing, Okla., was born Oct. 22, 1945, in Pawnee, Okla. She died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, in Springfield, Mo., at 75 years old. Stephens, the daughter of Anna (Falls) Delaware, married Gary Stephens on April 9, 1976, in Cushing.

Michael Duane Graves, 58, died January 21, 2021, at his home. Duane was born January 15, 1963 in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Cheryl Breedlove and William Graves.

James Allen Dahl

James Allen Dahl was born to Emory Dean Dahl and Marjorie Elizabeth Dahl on August 31, 1960. He died from cancer on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the age of 60 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Patty Dahl. Survivors include his wife Claudina Bell Dahl of Luther, Okla.

Carl O. Hubbell II

Carl O. Hubbell II, son of Carl and Sue (Harrington) Hubbell, was born September 16, 1935, in Oklahoma City. He died Friday, January 15, 2021, in Osage Beach, Mo., at the age of 85 years.

Sandra Kay Calvin Garrison

Sandra Kay Calvin Garrison was born October 1, 1946, in Chandler and died Monday, January 18, 2021, at her home in Chandler. She was 74 years old. A 1964 Chandler High School graduate, she earned a licensed practical nurse degree from Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee, Okla.

Education sales tax increases

The education sales tax figures in January show an increase from December in all of the three area school districts in Pottawatomie County that receive it and for the DA Justice Center, the Pottawatomie County Treasurer’s office reports.

Fee hike at Meeker Lake

The Meeker Town Board has approved an ordinance amending the lake fees at the Meeker Lake. The board also approved the emergency clause putting the new fees and permits into place on Feb. 1 of this year. Board members took the action during their meeting last week.

Kidnapping charges filed

Wellston STEM honorees

Wellston Middle and High School students were recently awarded their Gordon Cooper STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) award for the Fall 2020 semester. Students were nominated by their instructors for excellence in STEM coursework.
