Terrorism punishment

When media reports began to break a couple of weeks ago about charges being filed against a citizen of Afghanistan residing in Oklahoma City for conspiring to conduct an Election Day terrorist attack in the United States, it immediately caught my attention.

Will Rogers is coming to town on Sunday, November 10th to help us honor our veterans.The American Legion Auxiliary is hosting this event at Stroud United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. All veterans and those currently serving are invited to attend free of charge.

Highlanders

Kindra and I went to the annual Highland Gathering in Choctaw Saturday to mingle a bit with those who carry samples of the same DNA we do.Neither Kindra nor I knew we had much Scottish ancestry until we took DNA tests.Turns out, she is more Scottish than anything. Close to 40 percent,or thereabouts.

Anticipating Halloween

This year’s Halloween night is just two weeks away. Not sure even what all the times are in the communities for Trick or Treaters to make their way through neighborhoods and some businesses in Lincoln County, though Meeker’s is between 6 and 8 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31.

Town Talk

Julie Bivin, my mother Aleta Smalley, and I traveled to Albia, Iowa this past week to visit the Welcome Home Soldier Memorial.The Memorial was a vision of local resident and Vietnam veteran Jim Keller and seeing it was worth the trip.

First camping trip

Our son-in-law Terry took his son Liam (our grandson) camping one night earlier this week. My wife Pat and I are pretty sure they had a great time from the early reports we’ve gotten and some of the photos we’ve seen.We know Liam was really looking forward to it, as was Terry.

Town Talk

The Stroud High School Tigers will take on the Alva Goldbugs this Friday night at Stroud’s Jack Poskey Field with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Stroud Booster Club and Town Talk want to light up the night sky with blue lights beginning this Friday night.

Baylee Billings, our office manager, called me over to her computer the other day and showed me where Cross Canadian Ragweed would be reuniting and playing a showatBoonePickens Stadium in April.Also on the bill: the Turnpike Troubadors, Jason Boland and The Stragglers and Stony LaRue.

The other night, Kindra asked me if I had checked the trail cams I put in our woods.It had been a few days, so I pulled the SD card out of the camera near the reading and story area she has cleared along the creek.
