Eight area teams advance to regional

Area teams made a strong showing in district softball play, with eight winning championships and advancing to next week’s regional tournaments.Two teams from each regional tournament will advance to the state tournament, which will be played at the Firelake fields in Shawnee.

Regional baseball tournaments for most area schools are this week. Regionals for Class 2A schools, which include Dale and Stroud, will be released next week.The state tournaments for Classes A and B will be May 7-9 and for Classes 2A-6A will be May 14-16.

Prague swept the team championships at the 66 Conference track meet last week, the girls edging Stroud by less than a point and the boys winning handily.The girls finished with 165.66 points to Stroud’s 165, and got the .66 of a point by virtue of a three-way tie for sixth place in the high jump.
