Wellston’s fast-pitch softball team dropped two games in two days as the team lost at Crescent 14-1 on Aug. 19, followed by a 5-4 home heartbreaker to rival Luther 5-4 on Aug. 20.
Both games were conference matchups. Crescent 14, Wellston 1 Wellston lost to district foe Crescent 14-1 in a battle of Lady Tiger squads played Monday, Aug. 19. Crescent never trailed in the game. The team outscored the visiting team 10-1 over the first two innings and closed out the run-rule win with four unanswered runs over the third and fourth frames.
Crescent produced 10 hits, two of those going for extra bases. Jessi VanOster took the pitching loss after throwing all four innings and allowing five earned runs. She issued five walks and struck out two. Wellston managed four hits, led by Rylinn Estes with a double.
Madison Webb scored a run, VanOster and Amanda Hicks both drew walks, and Grace Neely, Hailey Wallace and Tricity Ross all singled.
