Meeker Town Hall updates

We listened to our Governor Stitt at lunch today and it looks like sometime at the first of May, Oklahoma will be opening back up. As good as that sounds it will still be done slow and in phases. Phase 1, 2 & 3. It all depends on what our medical experts advise. I hope this COVID-19 ride is about over. So let’s all hold on a little bit longer and we will see.

The PWA guys have the new sewer line installed for the new Fire Station on Oak Street. I believe the last thing to do is for OG&E to hook up the electricity and the project will be just about completed. The Flag Pole and Ribbon Cutting should be soon.

The payment drop box slot in front of City Hall has been a big success. We needed that years ago. We had another Webinar meeting with a credit card company and we will be able to start receiving payments via debit or credit cards. City Hall is getting up to speed slowly but surely.

I want to thank everyone for continuing to support all of our Restaurants, Drive Thrus, Convenience stores, Flower shop, Ice cream store, Insurance company and everyone else that is staying open by appointment or whatever they are doing to serve the public.

I was at the Police Station and a very nice lady brought in a very special treat for the guys. Although we are in a pandemic this lady took her money and time to bake something special and delivered it. Now that is what Meeker is about.

Mowing, weed-eating and weed killer spraying time is here. Please slow down and be watchful for our guys on their equipment.

Special thanks goes out to all the Churches that braved the cold and wind for last Sunday’s event at the Meeker Lake. I appreciated all the special costumes and displays, that you all put so much effort into.

The work at the Meeker Lake Dam Project this week by Terracon was cancelled. They said they wanted to finish the project they were on before starting another. That work will have to be rescheduled.

All the water troughs that were stenciled by Debbie Williams and decorated by Growth and Development for Easter, looked really great. They will be seasonally redecorated and more will be located throughout the town.

I guess staff columnist Brian Blansett liked me mentioning his snake story. I see he wrote again about Rex the black snake. I promise this will be the last I mention anything about snakes. Ha! Ha!

One of our emergency grant for $25,000 was turned down by the OWRB. The grant was prepared for the Town by Cowan Engineering Group. I re wrote the letter with additional information and the OWRB Engineering Staff has now determined that our project is eligible for the emergency grant fund. The grant will be presented to the OWRB at their May meeting.

Michael Taylor with Cowan Engineering did send us an email letting us know that he did get us in the Oasis with OWRD. For the Man Hole/sewer line replacement ($1.7 million project).

This means OWRB will grade our application that Cowan Engineering prepared for us and put the town in priority status. One of the Old time sayings that we can use for now is, “Keep on keeping on.”
