Chandler driver charged with four felonies

Nine charges, among them four felonies, have been filed against a Chandler man.

Formal charges were filed in Lincoln County District Court on July 8 against Trey Nikolas Brasel, 31.

Count 1 is endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude a police officer, a felony. Brasel is accused of on July 1 this year of eluding Carney Police Officer Jacob O’Donnell in the performance of his duty by driving eastbound in the westbound lane, dodging around cars at a high rate of speed, nearly hitting other vehicles and running vehicles off of the road and endangering numerous other persons which were using those same streets while he was driving a grey Dodge pickup truck.

The charge states he was driving on County Road 870 in Lincoln County and he had received visual and audible signals from Officer O’Donnell directing him to bring his vehicle to a stop.

The officer was driving a clearly identified official police car, the information says.

The second count charges him with possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony while committing the felony of endangering others while eluding the police officer by possessing a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber pistol.

Count 3 is similar to count 2. It charges Brasel with possessing a .22 caliber Marlin rifle while in the commission of a felony.

Count 4 accuses him of battery/assault and battery on a police officer by biting Chandler Police Officer Shane Mustard on the hand with intent to injure Mustard knowing that Mustard was a police officer and was performing his duties.

Brasel appeared before Special Judge Emily Mueller on July 2 and July 8 and she set a $50,000 bond for him while ordering him to make his initial appearance on Sep. 2, 2021. The five misdemeanors filed against

The five misdemeanors filed against Brasel include possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance by possessing methamphetamine; resisting an officer, by obstructing Mustard and Lincoln County Sheriff Deputies Christopher Hyde and Larry Stover, Jr. by physically trying to get free while they attempted to place handcuffs on him.

Also, obstructing an officer by refusing to show his hands and surrender when ordered to do so by Officer O’Donnell; speeding in excess of the legal maximum limit on U.S. 177; and driving left of center by going on the left side of County Road 870.
