Sue Ann Campbell passed away on June 1, 2023. Sue formerly lived in Irving, Texas and Frisco, Texas and was currently a resident of Luling, Texas.
Sue was born on July 21, 1940, in Shawnee Oklahoma to Bill and Ola Adams. She graduated as a Salutatorian from Meeker High School in 1958 and from Oklahoma State College in Edmond, Oklahoma in 1962 with a degree in education. She taught elementary school for many years in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Irving, Texas, retiring in 2001.
Sue grew up on a farm a few miles outside of Meeker, Oklahoma and attended a one-room schoolhouse through sixth grade, where her mother was her teacher. In high school, she served as Secretary of Future Homemakers of America and was Junior Class President. In college, she was a member of the Shakespeare Social Club, worked in the Registrar’s Office, and was active in the Baptist Student Union, where she began dating her future husband, Gene Campbell.
She was an avid reader and a long-time Book Club member and a member of the Red Hat Society. She was a Southern Baptist, and throughout her life she was a faithful, active church member, choir member, youth sponsor, and VBS teacher.
Sue is survived by her son, Tom (Sarah) Campbell of Luling, Texas and daughter, Julie Heft of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren; sister, Janene (Jerry) Hampton of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Ola Adams.
Services were held June 6, 2023 at McNeil Baptist Church, with her son, Dr. Tom Campbell, officiating. Graveside service followed at McNeil Cemetery, 236-382, Co Rd 302, Luling, Texas.
