Randall, Coody win regionals

Meeker boys team takes 1st

Jordan Coody and Riley Randall won the individual championships at their cross-country regionals Saturday, and the Meeker boys brought home the championship plaque.

Randall, a two-time state champion, won his regional by a minute, clocking 17:06.73, and beat the top times at the other two regionals y almost a half-minute each.

Coody, a career state qualifier, ran 17:26.18 at the Waurika regional, almost half a minute better than the next time.

The Meeker boys brought home hardware as the regional champion from Checotah. They had 84 points, out-dueling Wright City, which had 98.

McLoud qualified their girls teams for state.

The Lady Lions were sixth at the Class 3A regional at Oklahoma Bible, with senior Cassie Wright finished fourth.

The Lady Redskins were seventh at Waurika, but were only five points away from fifth.

Prague was fifth at the Waurika meet.

The state meet will be Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe High School.

Class 2A boys will run at 12:15 p.m., with the awards ceremony at 1 p.m.

Class 4A girls run at 1 p.m., with the awards ceremony at 2:15 p.m.

Class 4A boys run at 1:30, with the awards ceremony at 2:15.

Class 3A girls run at 2:15 and the Class 3A boys at 2:45 with the awards ceremony at 3:30.

For Randall, it will be a return to the course where he won the last two championships.

“He ran some fast times early in the season and his mindset is to peak here, when it matters most,” Coach Antony Early said.

“His goal is to win state again.”

Last year, Randall won the 3A championship with a time of 16:28.11, with teammate Braxton Bussell finishing second at 16:39.70.

Coody finished 11th last year, with a time of 17:04.88.

“He has run very well all year, every race,” sad Coach Terry Martin. “I think he has improved all year as the year has gone on.”

Qualifiers for the meet include: Meeker boys - Riley Randall, Braxton Bussell, Ean Watham, Bryce Bussell, Johnny Butler, Brodey Manning and Tristan Bynum with contributions from Rylee Pryor, Cayde Kerensky and Corbin Maggard.

Chandler girls - Cassie Wright, Rylee Beatty, Kaylee Choate, Tatum Crouch, Emma Mascho, Lila McGough.

North Rock Creek freshman Abby Bloyed qualified for the Class 4A meet, running 15:45.95.

Chace Massie, Cooper Snovel and Taigan Gardner qualified for the Chandler boys.

The early forecast for Saturday calls for a chance of rain with a high of 63 degrees.
