School board filings

The filing period for school board offices in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties opened Monday and it continued through Wednesday. Lincoln County Election Board Secretary Melissa Stambaugh said these were the candidates who had filed through Tuesday for the following offices.

UCO to hold virtual commencement

The University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond will celebrate the achievements of approximately 1,074 graduates during the Fall 2020 Virtual Commencement Ceremony premiering at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12.

Food giveaway in Wellston

On Friday, Dec. 11, free food will be distributed at the Wellston Baseball Field area at 900 Hickory. This is not a needs-based program, so the food can go to anyone without restriction. Food distribution will begin at 11:45 a.m. and continue until supplies are gone.

Community Christmas Dinner

The public is invited to a free Community Christmas Dinner and Gift Away Event at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, presented by Open Doors Ministry. The event will be at Douglas Community Center, 299 W. 14th Street in Chandler.

Rural Health Day at Stroud

First Physicians Capital Group, which manages Stroud Regional Medical Center, will celebrate National Rural Health Day on Nov. 19. This day was created to celebrate the “Power of Rural” and bring awareness to rural healthcare. One in three Oklahomans lives in rural communities.

Veterans Day

White Rock student Josie Murray wrote an essay that she read at the Veterans Day event at the school. Although it isn’t specifically about Veterans Day, we thought it would be good to print it. What America Means To Me By: Josie Murray America means that I can have a real house to live in.

Card contest winners

Chandler Jr. High Student Council held its annual Veterans’ Day Thank You Card Contest in November. This year, students from 6th grade at Park Road Elementary School participated along with 7th and 8th grade students in Chandler Jr. High School.

Ribbon cuttings

The Chandler Area Chamber of Commerce held ribbon-cuttings recently for Kristin Ludi Insurance, 808 Mavel, top, and Helping Hands Community Foundation, 112 E. 7th Street. Both opened earlier in the year, but ribbon-cuttings were delayed due to concerns about COVID-19.
