Smith wins essay contest

Ahna Smith, a sophomore at Chandler High School, won the high school division of the CVEC Essay Contest.

Nunn qualifies for National American Miss Pageant

Chandler will be represented on the National level at the National American Miss Pageant. 16-year-old, Laryssa Nunn qualified as an All-American Finalist for the National pageant after receiving the Oklahoma Jr.

Couple to celebrate 50 years of marriage

Gary and Jonnie Sue Bishop will celebrate their 50 th Wedding Anniversary on Friday, October 9, 2020. Gary is the son of longtime Chandler residents Troy and Virginia Bishop. Jonnie Sue is the daughter of John R. and Mary R. Green of Okemah, Okla.

Legako earns honors at Biola University

Gabrielle Legako was named to Biola University’s Dean’s List for academic excellence. The university is a nationally ranked Christian university in La Mirada, Calif. Legako from Wellston was one of approximately 1,500 students who were named to the dean’s list in spring 2020.

First Physicians Capital Group hosts free GED classes in Stroud

Stroud Regional Medical Center and its management company, First Physicians Capital Group, are offering free GED classes in the Stroud community. Weekly classes begin Monday, Oct. 5, 2020 1:30 - 6:00 p.m. (students can attend any time between these hours).

Alsip and Barton are October Lions

Chandler High School seniors Dalton Alsip and Victoria Barton have been chosen as Lions of the Month by the Lion’s Club for the month of October. Barton, the daughter of Randall and Kimberly Barton, is participating in the Pre-engineering Program at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee, Okla.

New books at Chandler Library

New books have been added to the circulation at the Chandler Public Library, 1021 S. Manvel Ave. A new children’s book available is from Dav Pilkey’s Dog Man adventures called “Grime and Punishment.” For young adults is Christopher Paolini’s new book “To Sleep in a Sea of Stars.
