Last week it was revealed during a Meeker Town Board meeting that the Town’s Growth and Development Committee, supposedly created more than 15 years ago, actually has been non-existent since its inception.

There was interesting national news last week. First, a Gallup Poll showed that almost twothirds of American adults believe that the Republican and Democrat parties do “such a poor job” of representing the American people that “a third major party is needed.

Years ago I had a friend from New Zealand who said that Thanksgiving was his favorite American holiday. I agree with him. It’s a day created for quiet reflection and gratitude for the things we have. Especially in today’s high-speed world, it’s good to decelerate and give thanks.

Thanksgiving is a great time of the year. My wife Pat and I always look forward to Turkey Day. Once again we are really excited because our family is getting together and that includes our daughter Meghan, her husband Terry and their son Liam, (our grandson).

When I got out of the service in 1976, there wasn’t a lot of fanfare made about veterans. I came home after five years, enrolled in college a week after my discharge, bought a pickup with money I’d saved and let the GI Bill cover most of my college expenses.
