Lincoln County Commissioners are addressing what has been termed “An Emergency Medical Services crisis.” They recently voted to create an Emergency Medical Services Advisory Board and appointed the seven members to it. Purpose of that board is to begin addressing the crisis in Lincoln County.

Pottawatomie County’s Free Fair unfolds next week and it’s the 84th year for the event. It would be the 85th, except it was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. I’m glad to see some events and exhibits returning like the Big Bass tourney which was started last year and returns again this year.

We have another new business on Main Street. Dell and Jenni Sparger recently purchased the RV Park and Pawn Shop on Route 66 just west of Stroud. After the purchase they decided to move the Pawn Shop to downtown Stroud. It is in the building that was formerly the Sisters Consignment Store.

I’ve gotten to meet a few interesting people in my time. Sat on a plane one day next to Bob Richards, the Vaulting Parson, whose visage graced Wheaties cereal boxes when I was a kid. He was in 70s at the time and pleased beyond measure that I recognized him.

Full week of area football

All six area football teams are in action Friday, with two Lincoln County rivalries headlining the schedule. Chandler visits Stroud for a 7 p.m. kickoff and Prague motors west on Highway 62 to face ancient rival Meeker at 7.

Hearing in triple stabbing

Pre-preliminary hearings are scheduled for a McLoud area man who faces three felonies in connection with a triple stabbing that took place in early July and his girlfriend who also is charged with a felony. Joshua Lynn Barnett, 34, was formally charged Aug.

Changes at the games

As area football teams prepare for their upcoming contests this Friday night, school officials and law enforcement officers are looking at beefing up security in light of the shooting that took place last Friday night during the game between Choctaw and Del City.

Body found

Lincoln County Sheriff officers and the OSBI are investigating after a body was found in a creek in the north central portion of Lincoln County in the Tryon area. Sgt.

Early deadlines for next edition

Due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, we’ll have early deadlines for the Sep. 4 edition. The deadline for ads, classifieds, obits and legals will be 5 p.m. Friday. Our office will be closed on Monday.
