This weekend America will celebrate Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a holiday that can be bittersweet for many people. I look forward to enjoying this long weekend.

Heavy rains cause road problems

Rainfall that began falling early on Monday and was continuing into the evening on Tuesday has impacted some area roads in Lincoln County. Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Brandon Morgan pointed out several roads have been impacted by the rains.

Memorial Day activities

Several area communities in Lincoln County are planning to hold Memorial Day observances. Carroll Harper, with the Cemetery Association at Meeker, says a Memorial Day observance will be held at New Hope Cemetery beginning at 11 a.m. that morning.

County scraps bids on fairgrounds project

Lincoln County commissioners this week decided to reject and throw out all bids for the west wall and stem wall at the Fairgrounds. Commissioners determined one bid lacked all the required documents and the other bid was too high.

Stroud names valedictorians and salutatorians

Stroud names valedictorians and salutatorians for 2022 Stroud High School has named its top students of the 2022 senior graduating class. The school’s valedictorians are KayLyn Baker, Madison Williams, and Jacob Smith and the salutatorian is Justin Otto.

Stroud’s top high school golfer Brice Wolff captured the State Class 2A individual golf championship recently during the state tournament. Stroud Golf Coach Mason Baade said Wolff carded scores of 70, 69 and 75 for a total score of 214 through three rounds of golf to claim the individual title.

Dale falls at state

The Dale Pirates saw their season come to an end when they suffered a 6-2 loss at the hands of Oktaha in the semi-finals of the state tournament. Dale scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning only to have Oktaha even it with two runs in their half of the inning.

Meeker approves budget

Meeker’s Town Board of Trustees this week approved the General Fund budget for 2022-2023 and also voted to approve a supplemental budget for the current fiscal year, 2021-2022. Later, meeting as the Public Works Authority Trustees, they approved the PWA budget for 2022-2023.

Charges for Stroud man

A Stroud man faces two felonies and two misdemeanors following a recent high speed pursuit on Highway 66 and county roads in Lincoln County. Formal felony charges were filed April 21 in Lincoln County District Court against Camron Jeremiah Thornhill, 21.
