Holiday activities, events on schedule

Meeker, Chandler and Stroud have holiday activities this week, beginning with Chandler’s tree lighting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the lawn at the Lincoln County Courthouse. The event includes decorating contests, music, an ugly sweater contest and the tree lighting at 7:30 p.m.

The Chandler Library held its last story time of the year before Thanksgiving and featured seasonal crafts in addition to reading stories. Library staff helped participants trace handprint turkeys and decorations for a Christmas tree that is displayed in the library window.

Eight years in starvation case

A Lincoln County District Judge has sentenced the step-mother who was convicted of child neglect by a jury in late October. District Judge Cindy Ashwood on Tuesday followed the recommendation of the jury and handed Amy Adkins Jones eight years in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

School board elections

The three-day filing period for school board offices opens next Monday, Dec. 6, and runs through Wednesday, Dec. 8. Election Board offices in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Chandler’s season ended Friday night as the Marlow Outlaws showed why they’re undefeated and headed for the state quarterfinals. After Chandler scored on a long drive on its opening possession, the Outlaws put up 38 unanswered points and gradually pulled away, taking a 38-7 victory.

Davenport keeps rolling

Just needing the first half, the Davenport Bulldogs cruised by Keota last Friday night in the second round of the Class B playoffs. The contest was over at halftime. With the win, they are headed to a quarterfinals clash with Balko on the road Friday evening.

Stroud eliminated at Morrison

Morrison put up 36 points in the middle two periods and ended Stroud’s season with a 42-8 win Friday night in the second round of the playoffs. The Tigers closed out with a 6-6 record and a remarkable turn-around.
