Canning - getting popular again

Sunlight streamed through the windows as if its purpose was to light the room. Little children’s voices bounced off the walls giving a sense of life and fun, while their mother, Michelle Hong, stood in the naturally lit room. Hong uses this room to can and preserve vegetables and fruits.

This year’s incarnation of the Annual Fourth of July Wiffle Ball Tournament, the 37th annual, was contested at Costner-Conway Field in Chandler on Independence Day. Prevailing in a round robin format were the Eddie Vedders (Eric Clagg, Spencer Clagg, Carson Clagg and Kayden Jones).

The End of Summer party for participants in the Summer Reading Program at the Chandler Public Library will be 2-3:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 2 at Tilghman Park in Chandler. A&K Farms Petting Zoo will be there with their animals for children to enjoy.

Kindra and I were happy with our harvest of Yukon Gold potatoes. For about a week. We planted the Yukon Golds and some blue potatoes in 18-gallon tubs back in March and have been waiting on them to mature.

1. Update on asphalt overlay on Highway 18. A. Oklahoma Department of Transportation has completed the asphalt overlay on the east side of Highway 18 from Highway 62 to Highway 66. They have turned around and are coming back towards Highway 62.

Memories of a special woman, and of family

A woman I haven’t spoken much about in this space is my mother who reared me from shortly after I turned six years old. As many of you are aware, my birth mother passed away when I was 3½ years old. She died of acute leukemia.
