A Chandler area girl’s horse is recovering after it was attacked recently, possibly by a mountain lion, or wild dogs. Kenzie Cowden, 17-year-old daughter of Kristie and Charles Cowden and a Chandler High School senior, said she went out to feed the four horses as she usually does around 8 or 9 a.m.

Chandler rodeo on Friday, Saturday

The 81st annual Chandler open rodeo is coming up. Participants of each event will compete for prize money, awarded to winning contestant in their event, at the Round Up Club Arena Friday and Saturday. These events include: Bareback Riding, Ranch Bronc Riding, Tie Down Roping, Open Barrels, Jr.

Janice Rush of Davenport was born January 11, 1937, in New York, N.Y., and died Wednesday, July 14, 2021. She was 84 years old. Rush, daughter of John R. Coots and Barbara Bicknell Coots, married Marvin Rush in Feb. 1955.

Carol Louise Nicholson was born February 1, 1938, in Adrian, Mich., and died Wednesday, July 14, 2021, in Houston, Mo. She was 83 years old. The daughter of Earl and Lucille (Hiftline) Ries, she married Jerry Borton in 1959.

Gwendolyn Whitecotton was born January 2, 1939, in Escanaba, Mich. She died Thursday, July 1, 2021, at the age of 82 years. Whitecotton, the daughter of Samuel S. Stepp and Frances M. (Posenke) Stepp, married Raymon Whitecotton on September 14, 1957, in Henryetta, Okla.

Marshall “Cajun” Lee Hamlet

Marshall “Cajun” Lee Hamlet was born July 11, 1941, in Farris, Okla. He died July 17, 2021, in Stroud, Okla., at the age of 80 years. Cajun was the son of Virgil M. Hamlet and Lanora Gibson. Cajun was a longtime resident of Stroud.
