Book sale and summer programs at Stroud Library

Stroud Friends of the Library will host a book sale May 28-29 to benefit Stroud Public Library. Most books are 3 for $1. These dates coincide with the annual Stroud High School Alumni weekend.

Children age pre-kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to attend “Destination Dig” Vacation Bible School at Sparks First Baptist Church. Each evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Prague reading

Starting June 1, the Haynie Public Library in Prague will have their annual Summer Read for all ages. For more reading incentive, the library has added weekly Grab and Go Bags for ages 12 and under in addition to the Reading Challenge.

Last summer, my good friend Celia Graham emailed to say she and husband Dean had something they wanted to give me. “I think you will like it,” she wrote. Indeed. I liked it very much. It was a box of photography related items, including two of the old twin lens reflex cameras I like so much.

1. Update on Quapaw 15 (Meeker Lake) A. I talked to Valerie Glasgow USDA/ NRCS Design Engineer for this project. She said that A&E Conservation works has completed the study for the Lake and now it goes into a review stage that last 2 months.

Observing Memorial Day

America once again will celebrate Memorial Day Weekend over the next few days. I look forward to it. It’s an opportunity to gather with family members, a time for reflection and visiting cemeteries to remember those who have passed on before us.

Memorial Day events planned

Chandler, Meeker and Stroud are planning to have Memorial Day events. In Chandler, the American Legion Post 64 along with the local Boy Scouts will be placing flags at the Oak Park Cemetery at 9 a.m., on Saturday, May 29. The public is welcome to come and help place the flags.
