James Bailey Garner died peacefully on October 20, 2024, in Plano, TX at the age of 95.
HewasbornAugust25, 1929, in Chandler, OK.
Preceding him in death are his parents,William and Era Garner, and his brother, Norman “Buddy” Garner.
James married Joyce Louise Mathews on March 19, 1954, in Davenport, OK. She survives. Also surviving are his two sons, James Stephen (Kathy) Garner of Houston, TX and Gary Mark (Tamara) Garner of Plano, TX; three grandchildren,Abby Garner, Christopher (Danielle) Fall, and Stephanie (Steven)Wilkens; and nine greatgrandchildren, Ella, Liam, Bria, Hannah, Jeremiah, Levi, Ethan, Joy, and Amos. James graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in 1951. He served in the United States Army and Army Reserves for five years, including during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1956. He worked forTexaco from 1953 until his retirement in 1987.
James was a loving Christian man who faithfully served the Lord his entire life. He and Joyce attended Memorial Church of Christ in Houston, TX. He ministered to low-income families at Impact Houston and taught Bible studies at Treemont Senior Living in Houston, TX. He and Joyce enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Graveside services for James will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2024, at Davenport Cemetery, Davenport, Oklahoma. Condolences can be expressed at www.parksbrothers.net. Services are in the care of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler, Oklahoma.
