Ninth & Manvel: Stop signs going up

EMILY KALKA The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is set to install a four-way stop at the intersection of 9th and Manvel around the first week of March, according to Chandler City Manager Jason Orr. Orr initially made the request for the signs on Nov.

GT students to help clean up Route 66

“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” The famous line from John F. Kennedy’s inaugural speech in 1961 was a the heart of Chandler Mayor Kent McVey’s talk with Gift and Talented students at Park Road on Jan. 24.

Two felony charges for Meeker man

A Meeker man faces two felonies after he reportedly assaulted a Lincoln County deputy sheriff and threatened to burn down his grandparents’ home. Casen Anthony Morgan, 28, was formally charged in Lincoln County District on Jan.

Rotarians of the month announced

Gage Blankenship, Emmerson Snovel and Anna Phillips have been named Student Rotarians of the Month for February. Gage Blankenship is the son of Doyle and Taira Blankenship and has one older brother.

Democrat meeting

Democrats in the area are invited to the next meeting of the Lincoln County Democratic Party on Thursday, Feb. 8. It will take place in Chandler at the Destinations restaurant, according to the group. Dinner and conversation will kick off at 6 p.m., with the meeting to follow at 7 p.m.

New pastor installed at Christian Church

The First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Chandler, announced the installation of its new pastor on Jan. 21. Lori Brisco Smithey is the new leader of the church, which has been shepherded by numerous pastors since it was established in late 1891, according to a release.

Rain-soaked roads

Last week’s ice storm across Central Oklahoma heavily damaged Lincoln County area roads and it will take some time to fix them. It impacted travel for those who use the roads daily, among them school buses and businesses.
