Lincoln County Commissioners meeting

Lincoln County commissioners this week authorized the Sheriff’s Office to go out for bid on a pre-engineered steel building and approved agreements with an engineering firm for bridges in Districts 1 and 2.

Wellston man to prison

A Wellston man has pleaded no contest to six counts of sex crimes with a minor under 16 and has been handed a state prison term. Gary Wayne Shafer, 68, originally was charged in Lincoln County District Court on Sep. 19, 2022 with one count of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16.

Hearings for two charged in Carney man’s death

Preliminary hearings have been scheduled for an Iowa man a Wellston woman charged in the connection with the death of a Carney man. Each faces three felonies. Each is being held in the Lincoln County Jail in Chandler without bond.

Salute to Veterans coming in November

The Lincoln County News will publish a Salute to Veterans in the edition of Nov. 9. The deadline to submit photos is 5 p.m. Nov. 3. The earlier you submit them, the better. The salute will include photos and each veteran’s name, rank and years of service.

Chandler Halloween Tuesday

This year’s annual Downtown Trick or Treat in Chandler is set to take place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 31 along Manvel. Most of the businesses located there plan to hand out treats to kiddos during the event. It is open to all families to attend.

Fire in Stroud

A fire that broke out in Stroud on Main Street Monday night destroyed an antique store but firefighters were able to contain the fire to that building. Stroud Fire Chief Chris Wilson said the call came in at 8:35 p.m. Wilson noted, “We had heavy smoke as we arrived.
