1. Update on Lincoln County Special Election July 13 A. Please do all your fact finding about this election for building a new larger Lincoln County Jail. Our attorneys at OKC have advised Meeker and the small surrounding Towns around Chandler to put a lot of thought into this election.

Time again for the IFYR

After having to take a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the International Finals Youth Rodeo returns to action this Sunday evening for nearly a week at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center. This year’s theme for the IFYR is “It Feels Good to be a Legend.” Official check-in begins at 8 a.

Alternatives to the jail

Dear Editor: There is a Lincoln County Special Election on July 13th and Proposition No. 2 on the ballot calls for incurring a 30-year debt to build a new, larger Lincoln County Jail.

Voting ‘no’

Dear Editor: We have had a bad year with the pandemic. A lot of people are out of work and struggling. I do not think it is a good time to put more burdens on the average citizens. Citizens cannot afford necessities like gas and groceries.

Town Talk

Thank you to Elizabeth Lau and Jessica Martinez for painting the activities for children at the Pocket Park on Main Street. Another thanks goes to Julie Bivin, Town Talk volunteer, for recruiting these two ladies. It is beginning to take shape.

Updates from Meeker Town Hall

1. Update on July 3rd Fireworks Display A. Chamber of Commerce will be the sponsor for this year’s fireworks display. The Chamber sponsors a Golf Tournament each year to help fund the fireworks display. There are usually ten teams scheduled for the tournament held at the Chandler Golf Course.

Plenty of water

Recently, my wife Pat and I spent a Saturday afternoon volunteering at the first Corn Stock corn hole tournament held in Shawnee. It was for a good cause, we believed. It was a fundraiser for the annual Cops n’ Kids event that is scheduled for Aug. 28 at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center.

I was hungry. It wasn’t until a feast was laid out before me that I realized. I was not just hungry. I was starving. I cracked open the first page of the book in front of me and began to devour the words. Letting my mind soak in the sweet details and the tart betrayals about the characters.

Monitoring medical marijuana

Medical Marijuana growing operations are surging in this area and other parts of the state. Because of concerns aired by citizens about some of these, Lincoln County commissioners and law enforcement have begun addressing those suspected of illegal activity.
