Stroud smothered Savanna Friday night, almost hanging half a hundred in the first half and holding the Bulldogs negative 41 yards of total offense. It was a continuation of the Tigers’ dominance in District A-6. They were 7-0 in district and won their league games by a combined score of 386-64.

The Davenport Bulldogs playing their final regular season contest at home suffered a 57-8 setback to the Depew Hornets last Friday night. The Bulldogs now prepare for the first round of the playoffs, traveling to Drumright Friday night. Coach John Greenfield said kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Stroud’s cheerleaders qualified for the state Game Day competition last Saturday. They competed in the regional at Stroud and finished with 379.2 points. The state competition will be Saturday morning at Moore High School.

For the second year, we asked area high school seniors to write letters to veterans thanking them for their service. This year, it was the seniors from the Meeker Bulldogs football team, the Pride of Chandler band and the Stroud Tigers football team and the Chandler Lions football team.

Cemetery traffic - what to do?

Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler is rather quiet and peaceful in the mornings. But around 7:07 a.m., headlights can be seen making their way through the gravestones. From then until just after the first bell at 8:05 a.m., there was a small yet steady stream of cars.
Charlie Hill, shown above in Chandler in October and at right in Vietnam in 1968, was recently included in the Making History Project at the First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City. A Creek/Seminole Indian who was a sniper in the U.S. Marine Corps, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam, where, he says, his fellow Marines just called him Chief. We asked him to write this account of one of his experiences as a Marine in Vietnam.

I served two tours of duty in Vietnam in 1968-69. In the summer of 1968 during the Tet Offensive, Agent Orange was being used, which affected most of those who were in combat areas. Many have never recovered and are still being treated, including myself.

Charles Edwin Wright, 88, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at his home in Sparks, Oklahoma, surrounded by his family. Charles was born on July 1, 1935, to Julius “Jude” Edwin and Glenna North Wright on their farm in Sparks, Oklahoma.

Michael Ross Shields passed away on Sunday, October 29th in Stroud, OK. Born on July 1,1955 in Stroud, OK, Mike was 68 years old. Mike was one of 11 children of Ralph and Winifred (Thomas) Shields. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Tommy, Jimmy, Phil, Fred, Ricky and Gary.
