Melody Rina Switzer was born September 12, 1962, in Fairfax, Okla. She died Tuesday, August 11, 2020, in Tulsa, Okla., at the age of 57 years. The daughter of Carol Dean Culp and Freida Irelene (Scott) Young, she married Darren Townsley. She graduated from high school in Bixby, Okla.

Jo Ann (Pruitt) Cargill was born August 8, 1930, in Lincoln County, Okla., and died Thursday, August 13, 2020, at her home in Cushing, Okla. She was 90 years old. Cargill, the daughter of Henry and Treva (Coyner) Pruitt, married John Albert Cargill on September 10, 1948.

Christy Elizabeth Close was born to Elva and Peggy Jo (McFarland) Burrows on May 8, 19 72, in Seminole, Okla. She died Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at her home in Davenport. She was 48 years old. Survivors include her parents, her husband Jerry Close and other family and friends.

Funeral service for Vivian W. Hendrix, 89, of Lawton, Okla., was held Tuesday, August 18, 2020 in the Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Hiller of Centenarian United Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed her service at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

34 nursing home residents tested positive for COVID-19

34 residents at the Chandler Therapy and Living Center tested positive for COVID-19 with some tests results still pending, according to Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Wendi Marcy.

Davenport schools awarded aviation education grant

Davenport Public Schools was awarded an $8,000 grant through the Aviation Education Grant Program provided by the Oklahoma Aviation Commission. Davenport Superintendent Danny Acord applied for the grant in May and said they will use the money to update their flight simulator.

Voters head to polls for primary runoff

Voters head to the polls beginning today for the Aug. 25 primary runoff in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties. Republican voters who reside in Lincoln County Commission District No. 2 will decide between incumbent Troy Evans and challenger Marlon Miller.

Ostrander charged t with first degree rape

Donald Lee Ostrander, 56, of Wellston was charged with first degree rape of a child under 14. According to the affidavit filed by Lincoln County Sheriff Deputy Detective Larry Stover Sr., the victim told her mother Ostrander raped her.
