Playoff football

Chandler, Prague, Stroud and Davenport open the football playoff season Friday night, with all but Davenport having a home game. The Lions host Hennessey at 7 p.m. at Joe Telford Stadium, Prague hosts the Hugo Buffaloes at 7 p.m. and the district champion Tigers host Chelsea.

Veteran’s Day 2022

This week we have our annual Salute to Veterans, which includes photos and information about veterans with ties to our area. Please look for it on Pages 1D through 6D.

The Winners:

Green Kerbs Voters in Lincoln County elected a new District 1 County commissioner and helped choose a new district judge and a new state senator in Tuesday’s General Election. They also elected a new member of the Board of Directors for Lincoln County Southwest Fire District.

Jimmie Ted Taliaferro, 87, a long-time resident of Chandler, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jimmie Ted was born on Sunday, January 6, 1935, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Oran and Irene (Lambert) Stipe.

Juanita Faye Stanfield was born September 20, 1943 to Adella (Davis) and James Spencer Stanfield in Luther, Oklahoma. She died October 21, 2022 at the age of 79. She attended Dunbar Elementary School in Wellston, OK and graduated in 1961 from Wellston High School.

James Ervin “Buddy” McLain was born November 16, 1950 in Chandler to Pug and Christine McLain. He passed away October 26, 2022 at the age of 71. Buddy grew up in the Chandler, Warwick and Wellston area. He joined the United States Army and served a 15-month tour in the Vietnam War.

Percy Roy Barker of Chandler was born November 5, 1957 in Shamrock, Texas. He died October 18, 2022 at the age of 64 years. The son of Ernest and June Baker, he married Joan Titus Barker June 6, 1980. They were married 42 years. He worked as a stone and brick mason with Joan by his side.
